Specifically, this visitor guide focuses on South Loch Ness, the quiet side. Loch Ness is famous worldwide for its mysterious and elusive Loch Ness Monster! but there is much more to be found here. It is an area of great diversity of wildlife and outstanding natural beauty that is sometimes overshadowed by the monster legend, though even the sceptics amongst us live in hope of a sighting. Our Location
South Loch Ness is a sparsely populated area with a web of little used backroads and trails that is a Mecca for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. This guide covers an area from Inverness in the north which incidentally is just eight miles from Loch Ness, through the scattered communities on the south eastern shoreline of Loch Ness all the way to Fort Augustus in the south and eastwards to Daviot through the fertile farmlands of Strathnairn.

The Scottish Lake District
So numerous and spectacular are the Lochs in this part of the Highlands that many locals refer to the area as ÔÇ£The Scottish Lake DistrictÔÇØ, a land of crags, hills, lochs, tumbling waters and heather moors just waiting to be discovered by all who value true wildness but without the remoteness of other areas in the Highlands.
