Seventeen miles from Inverness, the Old Schoolhouse, lying high above the southern shores of Loch Ness, offers a warm welcome. It's a perfect base for exploring the Highlands: Inverness; Loch Ness; the Black Isle, the Moray Firth with its sands and dolphins; ancient Caledonian forests; the resorts of Aviemore and the Nevis range. We are family friendly, and flexible to suit your needs. Situated
in Stratherrick, with beautiful views over Loch Mhor and the
Monadhliaths, the Old Schoolhouse has a wonderful atmosphere. Built in
1878, and a teacher's house for over a hundred years, it adjoins the Old
School (now home to the owners). The area is rich in history and in
wildlife: from hut circles and cairns to battlefields and castles; while
pine marten, deer, red squirrels, osprey, Slavonian grebes and divers
are all seen nearby. With miles of tracks, quiet roads and forest, or
the open solitude of hill and moor, there is plenty of scope for
cycling and walking straight from the house. Why not fish from the loch
shore, or visit Loch Ness and the Falls of Foyers via the ancient Pass
of Inverfarigaig? The Old Schoolhouse also makes for a good base to
explore further afield: the Moray coast; Cairngorms National Park; Glen
Affric; Skye and the west; and the year round resorts of Aviemore and
Ben Nevis which offer mountain biking, watersports, skiing and
snowboarding ? while Inverness stays within easy reach for shopping,
theatre, cinema and leisure facilities. The Old Schoolhouse has been simply and tastefully modernized to a high standard, retaining much of its original character.
