Cycling

Whether you are an experienced roadie, a mountain biker looking to get away from it all or just out for a pleasant day on a bike wanting to take in some great sights, the South Loch Ness area has something for you.

If you are a roadie, you will want to test yourself on the climbs of McBain near Dores and the famous Corkscrew out of Inverfarigaig. In between you’ll find lots of quiet roads where you have time to recover and relax.

Mountain bikers can follow the South Loch Ness Trail to the high point overlooking Fort Augustus using a selection of purpose-built paths, farm tracks and forest roads or complete a tough circuit of Loch Ness by using the Great Glen Way to get to Fort Augustus and returning on the South Loch Ness Trail. Split this over two days to get the maximum enjoyment.

Leisure riders have an excellent, mostly off-road, route from Inverness to Dores on National Cycle Network (NCN78) and can access a variety of quiet lanes through lovely farm lands and old woods, passing lochs, crags and a wilderness many find as quite a surprise. You’ll find cafes for essential energy replacement at Foyers and you can pit yourself against the
climb to the Suidhe for stunning views over the area.
